Since declaring a state of emergency, the Ethiopian government has arrested numerous journalists, opposition party members, university students, and many others who it suspects might undermine its authority.

Two of the people that were arrested are Elias Gebru and Daniel Shibeshi, a journalist and an opposition member, respectively.  They have been held without charges for five months. Recently, they wrote a letter to the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Hailemariam Dessalegn, describing their denial of due-process as well as how their health has been jeopardized because of the abhorrent living condition. They also asserted that they have not been allowed to go to the hospital and get the proper treatment.

It is to be remembered that the Ethiopian government has further extended the state of emergency by four months.
