In an interview with VOA, All Ethiopian Unity Party and Blue Party have decided to merge and fight together to make a difference. In their two months stay in the United States, they will work around 3 major points, they reported.

The two leaders, Dr. Bezabih Demissie of AEUP and Blue Party leader Mr. Yeshiwas Assefa told VOA reporter Solomon Abate, they will work on establishing and strengthening their support base, explain the current situation regarding the human rights abuse in Ethiopia to Ethiopians in America and discuss the same with the American Congress in person.

The two parties are officially registered and recognized by the minority led Ethiopian Government and yet they are not able to get even one parliament sit during last election among the 538 peoples representative. Every seat is taken by Ethiopian People Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) who leads the country with an iron hand with communist ideology.

The two parties have vowed to merge this year and intensify the peaceful struggle in Ethiopia. They have also underlined the importance of the merger that is believed will give them better chance to fight the tyrannical Ethiopian Government. Working in isolation in Ethiopian political struggle has become thing of the past. Their previous action has left a bitter taste in the mouth of the Ethiopian public. Their bickering, infighting and working against each other have made them a sitting duck and easy prey for the government.  The inability of political parties to work in tandem with each other made them unable to come up with viable solutions for the Ethiopian people seeking for answer for so long.

The expected merger this year have given renewed hope to the Ethiopian public the peaceful struggle inside the country will have more impetus and vigor. The various announcements made by both parties also indicates the days of working alone and being an easy target to the government is over.

The leader of Blue Party, Mr. Yeshiwas Assefa believes the boarder fighting between the Oromos and Somalis that is happening in the Eastern part of the country is indication of the divide and rule ethnic policy of the government.
