Abbay Media; Ethiopians in London and other parts of the United Kingdom held on Sunday 23rd August 2009 a dinner gala dedicated to Birtukan Midekssa, recognised by amnesty international as a prisoner of conscience, and all political prisoners incarcerated in prisons up and down the country by the ethno-centric TPLF leg regime of Meles Zenawi in Ethiopia.

The patriotic Artist Shambel Belayneh and London based other artists gave colour to the event by singing traditional and patriotic songs touching all aspects of life and the celebrating the cause of freedom many are suffering for under the paranoid rulers of Ethiopia.

In this event attended by a crowd representing three generations, a number of attendants gave commentary on the importance of the day and how the freedom of Ethiopia is intertwined with the freedom of Birtukan Midekssa.

Nardos, a bright girl in her early teens from London presented a reading from Hale (Birtikan Midekssa’s daughter of 5 years) entitled ‘Imagine’ describing the suffering she is enduring following the re-arrest of her beloved mother and asked the audience, “if you feel as I feel, join me in asking for mother to be free”.

Dr Biri Yaya and Dr, Wondimu Mekonnen gave a commentary on how Birtukan represents the hope of all Ethiopians for freedom and justice, and her release is central to establishment of Free and democratic Ethiopia.

Ato Abebaw Yigzaw read a moving poem about Birtukan as a person and a leader, and reiterated how that the peace loving world community is outraged by what she is forced to endure under the tyrannical regime of Meles Zenawi.

Artist Shambel Belayneh together with various individuals were awarded a recognition certificate for their unwavering support for the struggle for democracy, freedom and justice in Ethiopia.

The event ended with colourful display of traditional dance with the tri-colours of the Ethiopian flag waving from four corners of the room and on the dance floor. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to keep the candle of hope burning until Birtukan and the nation of Ethiopia are free.

Well done to Londoners!
The Peace and Freedom Loving Ethiopians in London! Guys, you have done it again. God bless you all who made this event a reality. God bless you Shambel! God Bless Abbaymedia guys! You are on top!! You are true Ethiopians! You are so consistent and determined making things happen not just talk!
Ethiopians around the Globe should follow your examples in the fight for the cause of Birtukan and for all political prisoners, held in Meles’ dungeons, to be freed.
If Meles and his earlobe-less cronies think that we are sleeping while they are rolling the country backwards by 500 years, they have got it wrong! We can’t sleep when the enemies of the people are keeping the whole nation (apart from those of theirs) in the dark; depriving people from access to basic necessities, information, human rights etc.
Guess what Meles and his cronies are up to this days, even when he is about to die? They want you to go back to Ethiopia so that they can take your finger prints! That is the way they teach you about Forensic Science, that they just learned yesterday from the Chinese!!! Wait for another surprise, it is not over yet!!
Thank you Shambele and thank you Ethiopians in London. You inspire all of us…Keep it up and we will follow.
Berta Shembel. Egziabher yirdeh

well done London (HAGER WEDAD), I hoppe it is the bigining not the end, so continue this colour full strugle tilt this dictator government remove from the power.
God bless Ethippia
Where do i get that shirt with Birtukan’s picture on it? She is someone i consider a hero to all Ethiopian women and we have to do all we can to insure her freedom. May God be the answer to her prayer because when God frees from Bandage, no one can hold us back..not even Woyane!
London is calling.Birtukan must be free.Birtukan must not be forgotten. Her cause must be declared aloud.Hers is a cause for the rule of law and democracy. She stands for the truth that our people should live in dignity free from injustice and oppression.
Birtukan is adored by her people because she is a humble, courageous and visionary young leader. She symbolises the quest, vitality and bright future of her nation.
By incarcerating Birtukan,TPLF betrays its intense fear towards her and the cause that she represents.
TPLF may arrest an individual but it certainly can not detain the aims that individual has stood for.
No earthly power can do that.
The splitting of CUD in undemocratic way brought only animosity among the splitted parties, weakend each one of them and the winner is the tyrant who kills and imprisons innocent Ethiopian as he wishes.
Birtukan is paying a high price and she is being used by her political colleagues and the best way is to learn from past mistakes and unite with others who are peacefully struggling the tyrany.
It is only a united and strong opposition that will make tyrany and poverty in Ethiopia history.
Well done Abbay Media for the touch of proffessionalism dispalyed in coverring the event. This the start, we will take the cause Bitukan to the level, where Woyane could not immagine it, if its crook leaders are recreated not only once even ten times.
