What a picture

When they said ‘a picture speaks a thousand words’ they could have been thinking about this one. The setting definitely is a reception. The people sitting around the table appear very important since there appear to be as many servers as guests. In addition to this we see many photographers documenting the event.  It is difficult to determine if this is the beginning or the end of the event. Whatever it is, it is a very lavish and formal affair.

A person sitting right around the center is the only one wearing some kind of head covering, which would lead us to assume that he is from the Middle East. Further down you can see the lone woman. Other than that, it is a mainly a men’s affair. One can also assume that it is a formal event since the men are wearing dark suits. The majority of them seem to be white.

Let’s examine the person on the bottom left.  He seems lonely, left out, or sad? He is definitely brooding about something. If you look around, you will notice that those in front of him as well as those on his right are engaged in deep conversation. The man on his left has given him his shoulder.

Who is he? What is he doing here? How come he is not engaged with anyone? Why is everyone ignoring him? If they did not want him there, why was he invited?

He definitely does not appear comfortable. You can tell that from his stiff shoulders and his general posture. His hands are clasped in a prayer position. He is probably not praying, but he is definitely in deep thought. It is difficult to tell how long he has been sitting ignored and isolated. Why didn’t the host find him a partner?  He is not smiling, and his somber look conveys he is not enjoying the moment.

Why is he there if he is not comfortable; and why was he invited if he is not part of the group? Could there have been some mix up?  Could he have been drafted at the last moment? Was he warned about the cold shoulder he might encounter? Did he send a scouting party to assess the situation? Did they lie to him to embarrass him? Was this calculated risk that blew up in his face? Could it be that he is not able to engage with the others as an equal?

It does not look like a good situation for our friend sitting in the bottom left. It can be considered a form of psychological torture to invite someone to such a dinner and ignore him. At the same time, it is not a good idea to crash a party where one is not welcome. Maybe our friend is praying for the party to be over. Maybe there is nothing here. Yeah right the picture is lying.

like the picture even if i don’t want to see this vampire in any case but still ….he doesn’t deserve to appear in any form in any media except the vedio that will show his hanging in mesquel square together with his officials and the rest of his cadres and intellegence people will face trial at kebele level but no one will escape it whether he/she is a master or a lower level cadre and forum teenager…….they are all part of the crime and deserve death and be vanished from the history of ETHIOPIA…..GOD BLESS ETHIOPIA……

  14. Dani says:

    Dear Yilma,

Hilm endefechiw new!!!!! so I don’t blame you for sharing your dream with us….but you failed to see the bigger picture with in this picture…..which is a picture of the best man from Africa in 10 Downing street sitting around a table with the movers and shakers of this planet. You see he wasn’t there just because Gordon Brown liked him….he is there as the best and brightest man from Africa to defend Africa’s case.
The fact that he is invited in the first place is yet another big blow for the protesters and the force behined them because Meles came to London and went back with his mission accomplished…..what did the protesters got out of this??? a meer exposure to the main stream media and pictures to make readers of this and other oposition website happy.

  15. Retta M. says:

Dani ! You should understand he is their man in Africa. They usually select leaders who doesn’t give a damn to their countries. Meles doesn’t care a bit if Sudan or Kenya takes the whole of the west provinces or the South provinces. He only cares for him and his family probably his comrades. He is the most cunning, cruel and selfish leader the world has seen. No where on the face of this Earth such a man lived. Dictators never give their land or never under estimate or destroy the pride of their people in cold blood. This Yuchi kuchi man is diminishing every thing the country has. I wouldn’t be satisfied if they hand him upside down. I usually refrained from giving comment on this man. But I came to know gradually that he is systematically killing the country and it’s poor people. He and his handful friends are on power to destablize the country. He has no love of the country nor the people at all. If love of a country can be known in a laboratory, I doubt he can make 5%. I assure you. He is the most saddist person on the face of the Earth.

  16. Ab says:

    Dear Yilma,
I just can’t agree with you on this one. All you did was project your negative view of Meles on to the picture. Whatever you say about Meles don’t forget he is Habesha [constrained by Habesha modesty]. Second, in such settings you don’t get to chose where to sit; there is what they call a protocol. Meles is seated with people he did not have much in common. And he is not the kind who would go out of his way to initiate a conversation. I think he is good at debates and such.

Yilma, please try something else [something reasonable and impersonal] to present your case against Meles’ bad governance. What you did in fact defeats our goal of kicking Meles and his cronies out of office. Most of the comments I read in weblogs are simply useless [perhaps useful only in venting individual and group anger]. I am afraid fellow Ethiopian relish humiliating each other. That is waste and bad upbringing!

[I hope you will publish this.]

  17. debelle says:

it is obvious that he was left to sit alone no one on the right or left – may be every body is scared of him he may steal from their pocket – he is known robber and brutal murderer – they avoid him as if he is a leper – no matter how much his agazi bandas try to paint him – he is a broken piece – he either beg the people to excuse him or he will be taken to the international court of justice where him and his associates will see their day soon

  18. Lula says:

Thank you for your honest opinion on the issue at hand but what I would like to know is, the purpose of thowing petty insults at each other. wouldn’t it be more fruitful to voice your concerns, questions, oppinions or decents in a clean language.
Some of you will be alienated like what appears to be happening to Mr. Zenawi in the the picture that is posted up there.
By the way, the picture only represents an instant. He may have finshed a long winded lecture and was letting his cohorts discuss amongst themselves. Think about it fellas!

  19. AGAZIAN says:

tHANKS LORD BACK HOME OUR PPL ARE NOT SAME LIKE THOES NARROW AND HATE MONGER REFUGEES. HOW CAN ONE INSULT HIS WON COUNTRY LEADER??? 20. bubu says:

I don`t comment on the picture b/s I couldn`t say more than it can explain but those who are supporting weyane need to wake up from their
    dream

  21. Dani says:

Has it every crossed any of your minds perhaps he didn’t go to London to laugh at the table. Perhaps he had more pressing issues. Perhaps he was there representing the “dark continent” trying to find ways to help its people. Perhaps millions of the people he was representing were going to bed hungry that very moment. perhaps the other leaders didn’t have to worry about that. But no how could you think of that way, i am not going to pass on my judgements on you all but i ask you to read what you wrote and ask your self, who am i? what have i done to help my country? where am i? Then since i seem not to ridicule the picture you can call me “Woyane”.

    Long live Ethiopia.

  22. please says:

Every person is fresh for new place, I read from this pic not more than that. More over our culture is much different from them and thier childish character may not encourage him to talk. By the way you may think as they were talking about global issues but it might not more than personal talk and their personal talk is really childish.
Good example for this is watch the Obama and the Brazilian President talk. Then you can evaluate how our PM silence was correct.

  23. Tilahun says:

The PM displaying anti personal disorder (ASPD)–pervasive pattern of disregard for life and violation of rights of others that begins in childhood- and continue in adulthood. Deciet and manipulation are considered essential feature of the disorder. You can cloth this guy with cashmir, and serve him with gold plates and throgh him a party such as this he will still be a disgrace. One has to have a decent ( beautiful mind like Bertucan ) to enjoy life in life’s terms. I know what he needs. Bring him to me I wll give him Anti -psychotic ( 300mg neuroleptics) and let him rock in my ward.

THAT SHOWED THEIR IN HUMANITY. THEY ARE IN HUMAN’S FORUM IN CRUEL ANIMALS CHARACTER
